Emma stole my heart from the first page. I grieved with her and experienced rage on her behalf. I was very intrigued about what had brought her so low. I admired her grit and determination to stand on her own feet and prove all the naysayers wrong. I had no idea this book was part of a trilogy when I started reading it.

Seth was a conundrum for me. I liked him for the most part but wasn't able to understand some of his choices. I understand both Emma and Seth are young, but they seemed older due to their personalities, at least Emma did. I for the most part was wary of Michael because I wasn't sure whether his intentions were good or bad.

I liked how after catching my interest with Emma's plight I was treated to a great story. I wasn't quite sure at any point what was going to happen. I was surprised by how the attitude of many towards Emma might be the same if the story had been set in present times, although I like to think we've come farther than that.

I look forward to reading the second book in this trilogy and finding out what happens to Seth, Emma, and Michael. I haven't read any of Linda's other books, but hope to do so in the future, sooner rather than later. She was able to whisk onto a journey I truly enjoyed in a time bygone.

To Turn Full Circle Choc Lit Emma Book 1 edition by Linda Mitchelmore Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Poor Emma, she sure lived in a village filled with bitches and bastards. People can be so cruel, but then they can be so kind too and not ask for anything in return. It kind of reminded me of the Catherine Cookson stories, her heroines always have a hard time before finding their way and luck.

Emma is 15 when her parents die and the crappy village she lives in does not make things better. She is on her own, but she is strong and wont let anyone push her around. That is what I liked about her, her will do go on and try. Even if I had run away and lived in the woods, cos I just could not take all those people talking behind my back. She tries to build a new life and that is not easy.

The romantic interest is Seth, he does try to do his best by her, but when he stands up someone always pulls him down (his family is horrid.) These two does not have an easy way to each other and sometimes I wondered if they ever would end up together (I will of course not tell you). It's a love that grows and matures. Other people in the book are of course Seth's horrible father and brothers. And Matthew who shows up like a knight in shining armor. He was one of the nice ones.

I really can't say more as a few years go by and things happen in the book. There is heartache, happiness and it's a story about a courageous young woman.

Conclusion
It's a book that promises drama, romance and even a mystery behind the scenes. After a bit of a heartbreaking beginning the book just flows on and is truly easy to read.

Up until now, I haven't really ventured into the world of historical fiction - I wasn't really intrigued by these stories and I knew they wouldn't be my cup of tea. But then I saw To Turn Full Circle and something changed. I genuinely liked the sound of this story, the story of a young girl with a difficult past, and decided that this novel would be a great way for me to branch out and to start my journey into unknown territory. And I have to say, it was definitely worth it.

What I loved about it the most is the fact that it appeals to such a wide audience. Based on the fact that the main character, Emma, is only 15 when the novel starts one would think it's aimed at the young adult generation only. And how wrong I was in assuming this! To Turn Full Circle, I think, is definitely one of those books that all generations would enjoy - adult and young adult alike. There are no cheesy make-out sessions or anything else that would be too "offensive" for young readers and adults will no doubt find it a charming story.

Emma is a lovely narrator and main character and I really liked her. She's still very young and naive at the beginning and she has a lot to learn but I loved the fact that she didn't let go of her dreams and she was brave enough to stand up for herself. To be honest, I have a love-hate relationship with good guys like Seth because I often find them almost "too good to be true". I felt the same way about Seth but I really started to like him by the end. In a way he's quite similar to Emma. They've both been through a lot but they do everything they can to forget the past and to achieve their dreams, to be happy. Matthew Caunter, however, was someone I loved from the start. He's quite a mysterious and complex character who I hope to see more of in the sequel.

The only reason why I'm giving this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I didn't find it unputdownable. It didn't keep me up until 2 in the morning, holding my with white knuckles, not wanting to put it down. Having said that, it's a beautiful romance which both the young adult and adult generation would adore. If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I'd say To Turn Full Circle is Pride and Prejudice meets a modern Romeo and Juliet. The setting, the whole era and Emma herself reminded me of Jane Austen's stories and their atmosphere, but at the same time the rivalry between the Jagos and Emma's family and the forbidden love theme is like a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It really is a great combination and fans of historical fiction are guaranteed to fall in love with it. It's the first book in a trilogy so I'm really looking forward to seeing how Emma's story continues.
I love historical fiction and this one was very well written. I was really drawn to Emma and the way the author developed her character as well at the story itself. It held my interest to the point where I wanted to keep reading through to the end in one day.
The writer kept me interested for the ending to this tale of an orphaned girl who went through some tough times in an age when women were not supposed to be independent. My biggest disappointment was that she seemed to rush things at the end. I think I could have skipped the last 10 per cent of the book and still known all was going to end well.
