If Dangerous Waters eBook Jackie Mae

This review addresses the “If …” series. Author Jackie Mae has written four novellas and, although there is a similar underlying theme, each stands alone. (Or, you as the reader, can weave the stories together!) Ms. Mae clearly enjoys the art of storytelling and her enthusiasm quickly pulls the reader into the author’s carefully constructed psychic struggle. The psychological theme that seems to play out in each is one of free will vs. determinism. So, for example, in “If … Second Chance,” Shona’s life has completely unraveled, and we become caught up in her struggle to die by suicide or to choose a path that may bring her the happiness she yearns for. What if she doesn’t have to make that decision; fate makes it for her? Does Shona persevere in her search for happiness or does she allow darker forces to win the battle? In “If … Dangerous Waters,” the same struggle plays out for a different character, Alena, but in this novella it is resolved in a thoroughly unexpected manner! Sabrina in “If … Lost or Found,” and Tim and Shirley Graves in “If … Blurred Vision” also provide the reader with thought-provoking dilemmas, which can be read in a one or two sittings.

If Dangerous Waters eBook Jackie Mae Reviews

American author Jackie Mae lives in the Northeastern US in an atmosphere conducive to spending time writing and relating stories to her grandchildren - as a matter of fact her book series she calls THE DARKEST SERIES - the Taylor and Alan series - was co-written with her granddaughter Alison Taylor! THE DARKEST SERIES deals with darker elements such as psychic abilities and alien takeover. And now she favors us with a new series of novellas titled, If... Blurred Vision, If... Second Chance, and If... Dangerous Waters – short stories or novellas that explore the possibilities of 'What If.'

As in her other novella in this series – IF…SECOND CHANCE – in this story psychics play an important role. But this time round, Jackie Mae introduces the psychic in the first page ‘“I only impart the wisdom, the wishes, of the other side my dear. Please, please believe me when I say I’m sorry. May the universe be kind.” The seer had spoken these words. Words… words henceforth that had changed Alena’s every waking moment. If she could have, she would have taken back everything she had done that fateful day. Alena was a sparkly, peppy, happy-go-lucky woman. She had loving, supportive parents, a part-time job, a car, a boyfriend, and a great outlook on the life. She was 5’5” with thick, curly, black hair and brown eyes. At almost twenty-two, she thought she was well on her way in life, having already met some of her lofty goals. After all, she had everything going her way this year.

From there the synopsis the author supplies offers all the reader need know to be attracted to this story ‘Alena is young, intelligent, and going places. Graduating soon with a sought after degree, an upward career trajectory, and a kickass life plan in place, Alena has a stable life, close family and a terrific boyfriend. That is until Madame Psychic Orso changes Alena’s pathway forever. Alena’s newfound fears take on a life of their own. ‘If,’ will redirect and send her world into a tailspin. Probing dangerous new avenues she will discover something different than she’d expected. Can she recover? Will she even want to?’

Not the strongest of the three “IF…’ works, but it still is a gripping story well sculpted by an author who knows her craft. Grady Harp, July 15
Alena's is young, the only child and still living at home. She will soon be out of college and joining the work force. The main focus in her life right now is deciding what job she wants. Alena has a special gift that was discovered at a young age and that is she see's people. Not just any people but spirits.
When she is out with a group of friends they talk Alena into getting her palm read, after much protest Alena agrees. When they walk into Psychic Orso's she soon regrets it and feels overwhelmed. She was told there would be "great tragedy in the future with a lot of sorrow. . . beware of the water".

Alena stopped living at the moment. She was afraid to go out and especially around water. When her boyfriend puts the pressure on Alena takes the steps to go out . . . . .

What another great "IF" novel ! ! ! ! My favorite line of the book "If" the one little word that can take you places or make you crazy ! " I fell in love with Alena and not being a fan of water I could relate. I did cheer this girl on with the ending ! Great read and yes you can not put it down till you finish it . . . then you want more ! ! !

I received this book to give an honest review.
So this is the third novella in the If.. series. In this story we are with the character Alena who is very smart, beautiful (even though she doesn't think so), and will be going places one day. She has the perfect boyfriend who will do anything for her and she believes that one day they will marry and have children. It is a nice fairy tale to have. When Alena gets invited by her fellow female coworkers to not only attend a lunch but to go and see a psychic she doesn't want to go. She is very weary about it all, it seems that Alena can see things but she has to keep it under wraps.

Of course if you have followed this short series you will know what this psychic is going to say, it seems she always tells someone that they have this amount of time to live or watch out for this. When Alena gets told to watch out for water she takes it literally. She becomes a bit more withdrawn which worries not only her parents but her boyfriend as well. What will happen with Alena and water? It was a surprise outcome for me as I was expecting something different to happen.

Now I gave this book a four only because I felt that we could have learned more about Alena seeing things. Does she see them now or when she was a child? I would have enjoyed a bit more elaboration on ghosts and what not especially when the psychic mentions spirits surrounding Alena.
Not at all what I was expecting! I can't wait to see what is coming next from Author Jackie Mae.
I'm a real fan of Jackie Mae. Her writing style is consistant throughout these novellas and the endings are never what you expect but are SATISFYING and COMPLETE just like and good Bourbon and a Cuban cigar.
