In The Son Zeke sets Four up on his first date with a pretty redhead named Nicole. Before you get angry on Tris's behalf, don't worry, it was actually pretty comical. He just can't seem to completely shake his Abnegation values. lol.

Four also first learns what really happened to his mother.
"You can be more than either, more than any faction."

We get to see Four's independence in this book. He really is more than just one faction. And he refuses to be a pawn. Well done!

I read this book after seeing the second movie. I didn't even know it existed. I have read the trilogy and enjoyed it (for the most part). This was a nice book to keep the story alive from a different view but I think it could have been a little longer and more indepth into Four's character, his thoughts, and maybe even bring him to the end of the story side-by-side with the Divergent Series books.
I really enjoyed reading the Divergent story from Four's point of view. Roth does a nice job explaining what happened to Four in the past and what his thoughts are about Tris, with that story running parallel to Tris' story in Divergent. You also find out about more things that happened during the Divergent story time period that are not in the original book, things you would not have guessed, but that make sense now. Love that these are short stories, easy to quickly read through.
I really have enjoyed the Four series, but I really wish I knew all this before I read the Divergent series. I'm still upset with Veronica Roth for her ending with Allegiant. If I want to read about horrible endings will read the newspaper. When I read a good I want the characters to struggle, but I want them to triumph at the end and the whole thing left me very disappointed. I still think priesthood read Four. It's interesting to know things that happened to Four before Tris was ever there.
This review is for the third installment of the Four series, The Son, only. As I keep reading the Four series, I keep gaining new insight into the Divergent series. Certain things make more sense now, like different characters' personalities, and why they might act/come off a certain way. I liked it, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Divergent series.
If you enjoyed the Divergent Series, and who couldn't, and you were left wanting more, more, more like I was then this is a definite must read. No question about it, the character Four or Tobias is someone that makes you creave to know more about. This insightful short novel is just one in a spin off series. Four The Son lets you dive deeper into the character Four from the prospective of Four himself with a focus his life before he has gone through the chosing ceremony and his relationship with his father and fraction of origin. Before reading this novel along with the other three books in this series the reader must read the first book in the Divergent Series or it will spoil a lot of the Divergent Series and I would recommend that you read the entire Divergent Series if possible before reading the Four spin off series. I loved this short novel along with the entire Four series and would urge everyone to read it. The only con of this book is that once again you end up craving more of this outstanding collection so fingers crossed that Veronica Roth will bless us with that.

Hmm...so Tobias/Four knew his mom was alive long before Divergent began? That's interesting....I wish we could get this whole series from his perspective as well. We know how Tris felt through the books, but we never really know what was going on in his head. I personally felt quite annoyed with him, particularly in Allegiant. I wonder if we will also get an after Allegiant book? Because I would definitely be in to that! Veronica Roth, if you read these, I suggest you think about it at least! Overall, this novella was a good read, much like the other ones are. I really enjoy getting to see more of Four's character and the back story of how Dauntless was before the regular series began.
